As a paramedic, Ryan Bishop has responded to his fair share of bizarre situations. However, he’s not prepared when he meets Phillip, a local man who keeps popping up to save the day. Everyone lauds Phillip as a hero, but he prefers to stay in the background, going so far as to refuse medical treatment.
Ryan is intrigued, not only by Phillip’s unassuming manner, but also by his ability to be in the right place at the right time. Ryan wants some answers and maybe even a date. What he gets is an unexpected part in Phillip’s origin story.

Good story but to short and too expensive at $3.99 for 77pages. I will admit right here, I didn't read the whole story but the sample. The sample showed a very good start of a story with intriguing ideas(i gathered from synopsis and also other reviewers). The sample story flowed very well and left me wanting more as it was over too quickly. I wanted to buy the book but what stopped me was the $3.99 price tag for a 77page book. I do but $3.99 books all the time but have a self made restraint rule regarding buying books-ok to buy short stories under 100pgs forv$00.99, I've even can waive that if it's 100pgs and pay $1.99. If it's a novella that's very good(sample story or I love the author&/the series, and is between 100-200pgs) I will pay up to $3.99. But not for a 77pgs book. I have read a lot of promising gay m/m romance samples and note a lot of them are between 50-90pgs and run $2.99-$5.99, I as an avid reader of all genres, have a hard time paying that price. I don't know who would pay that. In heterosexual or even bisexual & menace romance I haven't seen that trend. Why in gay fiction and gay romances? And yes I do but and read several and love the genre. I find that being a straight white female who has been happily married for 33+yrs and have several gay and lesbian friends that the the gay fiction genre I find it appealing and also lets me see gay and lesbian relationships from a different point of view. I know that these are fictional stories but it does confirm my long held belief that just because a relationship is different from what I enjoy doesn't mean it's wrong. That Those who have a different type of lifestyle or relationships be it a sexual relationship or religion are no different from me, they are just regular people, just like me who just live differently, but because of stigma's, laws, and prejudices don't get to have as safe and carefree, and free type of life I get to enjoy and often have to go through a lot to obtain what I take for granted.I would hope that gay fiction writers would make their books more available economically to help enlighten those that tend to hate what they don't know if understand.
This author, I have never read before this sample but does show a lot of promise. In this book from what I have gathered from the synopsis, reviews, & sample story. I especially like that there's a paranormal gift of sorts. I will currently rate it a 3star for the reasons I listed above. If I ever read the full book(if books is ever reduced in price or a free one) I will reevaluate and update my review and rating.

An Ordinary Hero edition by Therese Woodson Romance eBooks Reviews
3.5 stars. Please note, the book is paranormal, but not in the sense of ghouls, ghosts, shifters, etc. Phillips uses his "super power" to help people, and runs into paramedic Ryan at the scene of several emergencies where Phillip has saved people. A relationship develops very quickly, and boom, the book is over.
While I thought the premise was a good one, the book needs to be longer to develop the characters and their relationship, as well as provide some sort of ending.
This is only the second book I’ve read from this author and the first was a short story from Dreamspinners Advent Calendar series. This time I was able to fully evaluate this author’s storytelling and I really enjoyed it. This book had a bit of fantasy in it and those are the type of stories I don’t normally read. This book however was really good. The fantasy was in the back ground and the love that developed was the main part of the story. I immediately connected with Ryan and Phillip and was glad to be able to follow the romance between the two men. I will definitely be looking at more books from this author.
I received a free copy of this book to read for Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve really liked some of Woodson’s books in the past but this one left me underwhelmed. It wasn’t bad but it’s nothing I’m going to recommend either. It was a short story and it felt short. It kept my attention until the end but sadly it’s not memorable.
I liked that Ryan noticed something special about Phillip right away. He was attracted but there was more to it. Ryan didn’t freak out that there was something not normal about Phillip. He just accepts his heroic deed. That doesn’t get him off his mind however. He’s intrigued and attracted to Phillip. Then they run into each other a few more times and it turns into something between them.
I couldn’t help but feel like this was all done and over too quickly for it to really resonate with me. I think further exploring elements like how he got his healing gift would have benefited the story. Although I liked both characters and found the story interesting I was never really engaged in their romance. This one was kind of a miss for me. IMO it could have been better fleshed out a bit more.
An Ordinary Hero is a short, but good story about two men and how their different lives intertwine. Ryan is a paramedic who has seen a lot of odd things on the job. He meets up with Phillip at the scene of an accident. Ryan tries to convince Phillip to get medical attention for his injuries, but he won’t go to the hospital.
Phillip is a book store employee, but he has a special “power”. He can sense danger, so he tries to stop it whenever he can. That’s how he ended up injured. However, he heals very quickly, which is why he refuses to seek medical care. How can he explain that to the doctors?
Ryan and Phillip eventually get together and Phillip tells Ryan the truth about himself. These two have an undeniable chemistry that made their sexy time HOT! But, where that was great, the backstory of Phillip’s powers was not told left me wanting to know more. Really, this could have been a great story if we knew how he came to get his powers and why. For that fact, it ruined the overall feel of the story and left me wondering why I should care about this story.
